About Us
Somersfield Academy is a Montessori and MYP IB School located on a beautiful 6 acre rural campus in Devonshire, Bermuda. We have approximately 530 students from 3-18 years old. Somersfield is a member of the NAIS (National Association of Independent Schools) in North America, is an affiliated member of the AMS (American Montessori Society), is an accredited member the IB (International Baccalaureate).
At Somersfield, we believe that today's young people must become lifelong learners, capable of responding to continuous change. They need to know how to work in teams, solve problems, think creatively and critically, and to learn by doing. Underlying our philosophy, indeed our model, is the belief that children learn more effectively when they are engaged in the joyful work of generating, exploring, interpreting and connecting ideas in order to solve challenging problems. Creative teaching strategies help students go beyond simply memorizing and recalling facts, to generate their own understanding and application of information.
